A Celebration of Life will be held for Richard Elliott Hutson at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at High Tide on BrickHouse Plantation, Edisto Island. The relatives and friends may call between 5:00 and 6:30 PM, Monday, May 9, 2016 at The James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway.  Richard had the courage to live life the way he wanted. He lived his entire life on the water. He was raised in the Old Village of Mount Pleasant and BrickHouse Plantation on Edisto Island. He was a Long Line Fisherman, Marine Contractor, Dock Builder, Tug Boat Captain for SCDOT Bridge Maintenance Division and an Engineer at DonJon Marine. Richard was an avid fisherman, loved the outdoors and loved all animals. Richard leaves behind, his wife/partner in crime, Helen Postell Hutson; his Springer Spaniel, Duck; children, Richie Hutson and his wife Julie and April Bunn; 4 grandchildren; sister, Kit Turek and her husband Tim; brothers, Tommy Hutson and his wife Ann, Cork Hutson and his wife Susan, William Hutson and his wife Lee; many nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The American Cancer Society, Charleston Chapter, 269 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401.

Richard was an fun loving person who was always willing to work hard. I remember him floating on Russell Creek on July 4th. He was always laughing and willing to help. We had many fun nights and days partying at Brick House. He was an animal lover and had a kind heart. Family was important to him and I was lucky enough to be included. He will be remembered.
