Read MoreI was a student of Dr. Impola in the 1960s and treasured the experience. In 1967, I lived in the copper country of MI for the summer and wrote to him about the Finnish culture there. He sent back a very warm letter advising that I get out of the UP before winter set in.

I became acquainted with Richard in the mid-1980s when I contacted him for assistance translating a Finnish document. He was the epitome of graciousness, helping me on several occasions and always including a personal note with the translations. We met in person at a FinnFest in Minot, ND many years ago and, for me, it was a privilege.
