It's a rare thing in public life to find someone who combines intellect, integrity and independence. That was Dick Kraus. During the decades I knew him I fondly considered him to be annoyingly principled. He never took the easy or politically expedient path. He did what was right. Our condolences to Pat and his family for the loss of a husband, father and our good friend.

I was so sorry to hear the sad news of Dick's passing. He was one of the finest public servants ever to grace the halls of the Massachusetts State House. A true gentleman, generous of spirit, a gargantuan intellect, and always motivated by the better angels of our nature. Working with him on education reform in the 1980's was an absolute joy.
