Not sure what to say?

The earth is less special with the loss of Richard Lederer. Through the years on Council at Actors' Equity and in committee meetings he was a driving force to get the actor's perspective heard. I will miss his smile, his stories, his knowledge and I will never listen to a speech bell without thinking of him fondly. Developing theatre and dinner theatre will never be the same. Lovingly, Margot Moreland

I learned so much from Richard over the years, first sitting on Equity Committees with him, and, later, on Council. He was sharp minded to the last, and being a neighbor of mine, he'd call sometimes just to chat. I'll miss the institutional history he carried with him, as well as the stories of being an actor in the 50s and 60s, and I'll miss his 2 minute bell. I'll be listening for bells, Richard!

Bravo, Richard! A gentleman in the Council room, he was nevertheless a tireless advocate for all Equity members, with a focus on those who needed the most support. He helped create support for the regional theatre movement, he defied cynicism while helping to secure affordable housing. He kept the bell, and the conscience of Equity Council, for over 4 decades. I was honored to serve with him, and felt privileged to learn from his example.

It was my great privilege to often sit next to Richard Lederer in the Council room, sometimes inheriting his timekeeping bell when he had to leave. I would be honored and lucky indeed if I also inherited (by proximity to his sage presence) a fraction of his passion, humor, tact, and empathy. I stand on the shoulders of giants like you. Rest, my friend.

I just saw him recently doing his own shopping.96 and STILL going strong. We should all be blessed w/his longevity, wisdom and humor. He will be missed terribly @ AEA and on campus @ Manhattan Plaza. A great sense of humor and a mentor to many. I am glad I knew ye!

He was a class act!! Our keeper of the Bell

Richard was rightfully admired for his long time dedication to Actors' Equity and the struggle to ensure a fair and safe workplace for actors everywhere. He served with purpose, humor and generosity. He will be greatly missed.

"Keeper of the bell" Richard Lederer was a shining example to me and many others in his dedication to Actors' Equity Association over so many years. He was a gentleman with a sense of humor and a good heart, and will be missed.

In a business full of suave and debonair gentlemen, Richard Lederer stood out from the crowd. It was my great pleasure to know him for the last ten of his 40 years on Equity Council and I will miss his wit and warmth at every meeting. Thank You, Richard, for everything you have done for actors and stage managers across the country and across the years.
