Not sure what to say?

I was saddened to read the news in the Oregonian. Richard lead an impressive and virtuous life. He will be missed. I am sorry I didn't get to know him better.

When I was a painting contractor in Salem, Dick and Patty asked me to do some painting at their home. That led to many more jobs there. I looked forward to the next one. Dick had retired, so he and I had time to talk while I worked. One of the things we had in common was a love of dry sherry. We never shared a glass but I will toast him tonight.

Here's to you, Dick, and Emilio Lustau!

Dick was an outstanding person and colleague at Willamette. My advisees, many of whom were pre-med students, often would remark how much they enjoyed his Latin classes and the time that he would spend one-on-one with them. My condolences to his wife Patty and daughter Shari. We all will miss him.

My father was in administration at Willamette. He would always tell us how much he enjoyed his conversations about literature with Dr. Lord (our dad's passion as well). Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I was saddened to see the news this morning. I had a few classes with Professor Lord at Willamette between 1979 and 1982. I enjoyed those classes very much, in large part because Professor Lord was so gracious and entertaining.
