Richard, students are supposed to outlive their teachers, or so the conventual wisdom goes. But you, the perpetual student of life, have become a teacher to us all, teaching us how to face diminishment with courage and great integrity, show us that even old "Fools' can learn new diets, and how to maintain a sense of humor even while living daily with the sword of cancer hanging over your head. We are all the better and stronger for having known and loved you! I shall miss you, my friend.

Richard I considered you a great friend. O wish we had kept in touch more. My heart is breaking and I was just thinking of you the other day. Glad you're out of pain and wish you a safe journey. Eternal rest grant unto you and may perpetual light shine on you.

RIP Richard Luken. You fought your battle gallantly for at least 5 years. Your Aunt Marilyn Ludwig loved you with all her heart, and being my best friend I feel her loss deeply. Fly with the angels, Richard, pain free at last.
