Not sure what to say?

I'll never forget the first day he walked into class, just looking around, taking us all in and emanating joy. His reaction to us seemed so different that, at the time, I had no idea what he was smiling about; I just knew it felt good to be in his presence. He was my first true mentor, and my spiritual path was shaped by his way of teaching, which never told me what to think. Rather, he pointed me in the right direction using questions. "What if this..." "What about that..." "What's that...

I remember attending the meditation programs at Dick´s home. He was always welcoming, kind & gracious. I learned from experience talks he gave at programs. A wonderful soul.

Dick was a mentor and a friend. He lived his life in kindness--and there's no better eulogy than that.

Dick came to the University of Michigan only shortly before I did (to a different department), but he was already a very prominent person here for his leading role in organizing the peace movement (notably the Teach-Ins, which become national). I worked closely with him in those years and came to admire and love him. Regrettably in later years I lost touch, but still cherish the memories of those activist years with him.

Dick was a caring & wonderful teacher, a positive influence & mentor to so many students. Open to new ideas, cocreator, best of human beings, an inspiration. He will be missed. I was fortunate to know him as a newly arrived grad student here in the 60s. Susan Golden

I sat next to Dick every morning for more than a year chanting the Sri Guru Gita. Then the short meditation after where he would sit with his knees up so comfortably. I would try and sit like that sometimes but there was no way I could do it. This outer posture along with his sweet smile and loving eyes reflected his inner posture. He and Jean loved me very much. And I hope they can feel how much I love them. Keep spreading your sweet conscious love my friend.

What a wonderful teacher and friend. Wholly missed and never forgotten.

It was a pleasure to know Dick and be in his presence. I enjoyed hearing the stories Chaitanya shared during meditation. He was a wealth of knowledge and inspiration.

Dick Mann taught me how to teach psychology. When I was a graduate student teaching assistant Dick gave me the challenge of meeting with other GRAs who were struggling in their classrooms. While they dubbed it the bad teachers group- it was anything but that. It was a great opportunity to support others with Dick's guidance and encouragement. Respectful of people, a wise and kind leader with a gentle way of mentoring by example, he will be forever missed and remembered and celebrated.
