I remember a young Richard accompanied by his father at NYC coin shows in the 60's.I found his inventory, and his old cabinets, captivating. He was always kind to me,a teen, and a true gentleman.

Richard Margolis was a man who gave far more to the world than he took. His legacy of numismatic research and his founding with Sara Margolis of the now 48 year old New York International Numismatic Convention are important legacies that will long preserve his memory. I feel privileged to have known him and privileged to have attended a memorial service in his honor at the Harvard Club to have learned even more about how he touched the lives of others, friends, family and business colleagues.

I knew Richard from 1970 when I joined Spinks in London- he was a credit to our subject, knowledgeable considerate and a gentle man. His ability as a coin dealer was formidable and along with a kind sense of humour he made a significant mark amongst all involved in the area in which he flourished- he will be missed but his legacy will remain in his masterful research on Boulton and the portrait medals of Benjamin Franklin by Nini.
