Not sure what to say?

I offer my very late condolences to Carol, Lunda, Scott and Kent on the passing away of Richard Markus. I fondly and gratefully remember my initial days and years as a foreign graduate student in Case Tech when Carol and Richard became my "host family" and introduced me to the American way life (which in those days was indeed beautiful.) It was in their house I watched the election fever of the 1964 Goldwater- Johnson campaign. I recall too Richard showing me his skill in driving over thick...

A very great man . Smartest person I ever met. He mediated and settled difficult cases and did not want to be paid.

As a young trial lawyer you look for role models and people you want to be like when you grow up. I met Judge Markus early in my career and his passion for fairness, his demand for precision, and his twinkle in the eye humor became contagious. As we crossed paths at the Court or Appeals he would always find time for me; and when I was on the Supreme Court I would find him when I just needed a dose of decency. He will be missed, but those of us who had the privilege of studying at his knee...

Margie and I were saddened to hear of Dick's passing. He was indeed a wonderful person and a role model for great lawyers and judges. His work with NITA over the years was as significant as any of the founding fathers and mothers. His knowledge of the law and of advocacy was outstanding, but his ethical values were what set him apart from the rest of us. We will miss him.

[On behalf of NITA] This was a life well lived. In addition to his family there were three things Dick Markus loved: sharing his knowledge, talking with lawyers and teaching. An ardent supporter of NITA, Judge Markus served for decades as a Board member and one who was always looking to help. There is no question that Judge Markus had strong opinions and was never shy about sharing them. His tenure as a lawyer, teacher and Judge was truly exemplary. Not only did he help shape NITA into...

Judge Markus was a friend, mentor, and role model. Just a few weeks ago, CSU Cleveland-Marshall Law School inducted him into our Hall of Fame for his many years of outstanding teaching as an Adjunct Professor. On a personal note, Judge Markus played an instrumental role in my political career. After being elected Ohio Attorney General in 1990, my opponent filed a lawsuit contesting the election. I hired Judge Markus, then at Porter Wright, as my lawyer and thanks to his brilliant work, the...

Carol please accept our deepest sympathy in the loss of a good friend and fellow professional. Dick was always admired and respect not only for his abilities. but more importantly for being a wonderful human being. We will miss him immensely. Wishing the best for you and your family during this very difficult time.

Great teacher, always willing to share ideas with others, especially younger lawyers. He always took my calls. I called him Judge. He called me Lawyer. He was a giant among us.

So deeply, deeply sorry to hear about the Judge's passing. Our hearts break to hear this sad news; but also soar for the privilege of having known this extraordinary human being and his wonderful family. Peace.
