Not sure what to say?

I flew for Dick in C Troop, 1/9th Cav in '65. I am a better man for having served with this great officer, gentleman, friend and comrade. I shall miss his welcome smile and quiet, dignified manner. This grateful nation has lost a great patriot and hero and his loss is especially felt by the 1/9th Cav and all who knew and served with him.

As a Scout Pilot, having Red covering us was a prayer answered from heaven. Dick always said: Shoot straight and Do NOT Miss!!! The little bird depends on your shooting. He was loved! He will be missed!!!

Virginia, Carroll and I are crushed by your dad's passing. I hate it that I haven't seen him in so long. He was truly a man's man, and a very special friend to me. He was very proud of you too.

I was so sorry to hear of "Colonel" Marshall's passing on a visit to Pawley's Island over Labor Day. As a friend of Virginia's from Charlotte, I always remember Mr. Marshall and Bunny as being such sweet and caring parents and always treating me as a member of the family. My heart goes out to the Marshall family. Love, Carroll

I served with Dick in the 1st Cav in 65-66 and in the 7/17 Air Cav Sqdn in 69-69. My last combat mission was flown with Dick during a recovery of Infantry Troops in January 1969. He was a true friend and brother to me and I will remember the times we flew together, broke bread at his home at Ft. Bragg in 72, and at my home in Fairfax, Va, in 94 and the times together at Pawley's Island, 95, 98, and 01. My sister-in-law was the oncology nurse with Bunny and this brought us back together after...

Dick was my "BROTHER" He left an empty spot in my heart that will go unfilled. A GREAT MAN WHO FULFILLED HIS MISSION ON EARTH..

Certainly our early leadership made "Bullwhip Squadron" the legace that it has become. I can not bid my farewell to Dick Marshall without mentioning Red Platoon and Gunships.
The very lives of so many of us are indebted to the skill and courage of our Red Birds. Thank you Dick, your skill and courage transcended itself throughout our air-cavalry!
Condolences to Dick's family, we all truly share in your loss. May God bless you and keep you safe.

I cannot think about the 65-66 experience with C Troop 1/9th without thinking about "Thirsty Red" and his leadership. He was of the Best!

Gregg,I was so sorry to hear of your dads passing,I called and spoke with Claudia the other day when I read the obituary.I didn't get to attend the visitation or the funeral, but my thoughts and prayers where with you and your family.
