Not sure what to say?

Dear Pat,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Dick's passing. He was one of the most profound influences on my life and career. It was such a thrill to be part of the team that opened Mendham High School in 1970. My ten years there with Dick were the best of my professional career. His leadership, integrity and knowledge added to all of us and helped to build a fine high school. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Dear Pat and Family,
Our thoughts and condolences are with you at this time of sorrow. We will always remember all the wonderful times we shared with you and Dick. Dick is sorely missed in our VFW Post. He was a great leader, and our Post could certainly use his advice and leadeship with our current problems.
Our sincere sympathy at this trying time
Christine and Robert Smith

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

Dear Pat and Family:

I had the pleasure of meeting Richard, read 2 of his books, and worked with him a few times on the Grist Mill and Grim House. When a person of such character, intelligence, and generosity passes, the world loses a truly fine example of humanity.

With sympathy for your loss, I hope your Faith will sustain you, and that you will take some consolation in the joyful memories of the many good times you must have shared together.

Mr. Matthews was one of my high school teachers at West Morris Regional in Chester. He was a good teacher and a good man. While I'm sad that he's gone, I'm happy to see that he lived life to the fullest.

Dear Pat,
The loss of Richard from this present life will leave a void that can never be re-filled for any of us who knew and loved him. My fond memories of Dick date back to the time when we were boys together at the Fullerton grammar school and continued through the recent years when we often recalled past times and old friends. I join you in your present sorrow but take comfort in knowing that the future will see us all together again.

To the Matthews Family:
Dick will be sorely missed by all. He was a great guy, and a wonderful president of the Class of 44. We will remember him always.
Deepest sympathies,
Fran Smith

Our sympathy goes out to the entire Matthews family. We remember all the good time we had up on the hill.
