Not sure what to say?

Dear Carla and family of Richard Mazzone, I was a biology student of Richard Mazzone and Martin Borko at occc in 1966. Both were excellent teachers and really great people. I am sitting here by occc and I remember them fondly so I thought I would let you know the respect I had for your husband. I pray that he should rest in peace. It was an honor to know him. I became a teacher myself. I hope you folks are well. Mel Cooperman

Carla,

I was sadden to hear of the passing of Richard. We went from Albert Street School through MHS together. A lot of our lives were spent together in Cub Scouts, at the corner of Ogden Stredt and Prince Street, in Sunday School, etc. Afterwards, Richard went into the Army and I went to OCCC. Our lives were further entwined, he went to RPI for his Master, I went for my BME. He went on to Columbia as did I for my Ph.D. We both became teacher, I as a professor at California...

Carla,
I was saddened to see Richard's obituary in the paper. My grief cannot match yours of course but I tried to remember some things I shared from his incredible life. It seemed to help. I remember with great clarity the time we spent together in Maine when I came up to teach Richard to fish. Remember the chowder, the blueberries we picked and we saw the moose! I will remember the hours Richard and I spent talking science, ideas and how to save the world. He was indeed a special...

Dear Aunt Carla, Marc, Eric and Christine,

In recent weeks I have been thinking about how much of an impact Richard has had on my life. He was kind enough to spend hours with me when I was attending OCCC to help me get my life on track. He also graciously became my official advisor and was a true mentor to me. Without his guidance (and Carla's), I am not sure I'd be where I am today and I am ever so grateful to have had that time with him at that point in my life.

I...

For some unexplained reason on March 24 I decided to try to locate a few people from my past on the Google website. Mr. Mazzone was one of them and I was deeply saddened by finding his obituary.

He was my biochemistry instructor at OCCC in '68 and '69 and throughout all my learning years he was undoubtedly the most impressive example of what a teacher should be. I have never met anyone who came close. He was larger than life and I admired him not only as an instructor but as a...

We're so sorry to hear of Richard's passing. We were lucky to have known him as a neighbor and a friend.
Our prayers are with you.

My condolences to the Mazzone family. He was a great person to know. He taught me to tolerate science when he was at Goshen High School. We met again in 1968 when I joined the OCCC personnel. He and Rosetta were quite the team in that gorgeous Morrison Hall office. I am so glad I was able to know him.

I remember going to school with Richie from Albert Street kindergarten through High School. He was a good friend and I remember his tutoring me through fifth and sixth grade math. I have lots of fond memories from the corner of Prince and Ogden Streets. I am very sorry to hear of his passing and send my condolences to his family.
