Not sure what to say?

My favorite player. As a 12 year old I peeked my head into the Tiger dugout and called out "hey Mac!" He looked at me and smiled. The MVP of the Tigers. See you down the road.

I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who binds up the brokenhearted and comforts all who mourn sustain your family during this challenging time. (Isaiah 61:1, 2)

With heartfelt sympathy,
Patrice

It is with overwhelming grieve that I learn this morning of Dick's passing. My life was placed in "Pause" for many minutes as I thought about my Dick McAuliffe memories and what he meant to me and my family. Thoughts of sandlot baseball, fishing, bowling and the happiest moments in our old living room ran through my mind. 50-year-old memories and I still hold Dick in the very highest of esteem. Please accept my sincerest condolences for your immense loss. Know that as long as there are...

With much sadness, I note the passing of Dick McAuliffe. We moved into our new home in Grosse Pointe, Michigan in October, 1968, the day the Tigers won the World Series. Little did I know that 10 years later in I would meet Dick in Simsbury, CT at tryouts for the Simsbury Babe Ruth League where our sons were trying out. I was manager of a team called the Elms, and I drafted Mike McAuliffe, Dick's son, who played with my son Craig. With Dick as my "bench coach", we won the 1978 Simsbury...

Deepest condolences, thoughts & prayers to Joanne, children, grandchildren, family, friends and associates of Dick McAuliffe. I remember Dick from grammer school and I grew up next door and friends with Joanne in Unionville. Dick was certainly our town hero. May he rest in peace and may the perpetual light shine upon him. May his blessed memory be a comfort to you in your time of sorrow.

A great champion...#3 thanks for all the memories. God bless the McAuliffe family.

I was very sorry to hear about the passing of Dick. As an 11-year-old when following his 1968 Tigers team, I remember the pride I felt about one of our own Connecticut guys playing for the World Series Champions and batting leadoff, no less. I have an old store model bat with Dick's name burned into it, a strong, thick handled bat which he graciously signed for me some time ago. It's in a special place today. My condolences and good thoughts go to the family as they cherish his remarkable...

Our prayers are with you Joanne and your family, great Winterset La neighbor

When I was a kid, Detroit second baseman, Dick McAuliffe was my hero. His "unique" batting stance, which I tried to mimic during my first Little league at bat, (and was promptly called out on strikes on three straight pitches), his hustle on every play, and his overall scappiness, was truly admirable. To this day I have all of his baseball cards, an autographed baseball, and one of his game used bats. The cards were a gift from a dear friend, Roger Sierer, who just passed away last week at...
