Not sure what to say?

I realize this is a very late condolence, but I did not know of his passing, and for some reason, he was on my mind today. You see he taught me in 6th grade at Friendsville Elementary School. I believe this was his first year of teaching and our class loved him so. He was such a great teacher and encouraged me to do my best. I would often stop after school once I went onto Northern to visit with him. He made such a difference in my life. Sincerely, Carla Sisler Thomas

Dick, Vivian, and Liz are in our prayers. In my lame effort to get a smile Viv ... remember how we met? I backed into your car in front of Catoctin High as I recall. God Bless.

We have so many memories of Coach from so many different roles that he played in our lives. The common thread running through all those memories is kindness. His loss will be felt by all those who his kindness touched and we were so much better for having known him. Rest easy Coach.

Dick was my roommate at Frostburg State Teachers College, now Frostbutg State Univ, in our sophomore year ((1962-3) at Allen Hall dorm. He was definitely a hoot to be around.
One day he invited me to join him to deliver a shipment of whey from his dad's creamery in his home town of Grantville to their pig farm. While there he challenged me to catch one of the small pigs and he'd give me a six pack. As I ran all over that pig pen he was laughing his butt off as I never even touched one...

My condolences to the family and friends. I remember the days when my son Steve and Dick's son Mike played CYA soccer and basketball together. That is how I came to know Dick and his family. Dick was a really good man, loyal and sincere. The world will be a little less bright with his passing. I always looked forward to seeing you at the Maryland games and catching up with you. Prayers for Vivian and Elizabeth.

I had the pleasure of having him as a teacher at Urbana Elementary School. School was fun when he began. Laughing, joking, just a delight to be in his class. Not to mention all the girls thought he was so cute. May he RIP.

When he and Vivian had the horse farm between Rocky Ridge and Graceham it was easy to get to. Part of 60's and 70's he was on my basketball team along with other fellows and he was good. He was just a funny and friendly fellow. I retired from FCPS in 2010 and lost contact with him all those years. To the family of Dick - sorry for your loss and God Bless.

Dear Vivian,

It was a pleasure to work with Dick as teachers at Thurmont Middle School. He was a true leader of that school and friend to all staff and students. Steve enjoyed many pickup basketball games in the gym with staff and students, playing golf, and being a Terp basketball fan. Steve would go to games with Dick and enjoy a meal at the Terrapin Taco House after. Barb worked as a special ed. teacher, and always appreciated his support and having fun with her students. ...

Dear Vivian and Liz. Please know that you are in the hearts and prayers of the Mennito family. Some of our fondest memories in this life involve Catoctin High, the great families in the sports boosters club, and our time in Thurmont and your family is in the middle of all of those memories, including those nights at the Mountaingate. Dick was such a great person and you are all so meaningful to our sons. God bless you.
