Richard E. McFadin of Lake Viking passed away Saturday May 19, 2012 at the Daviess County Nursing & Rehab Center in Gallatin. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday May 22, 2012 at the Lake Viking Cemetery near Gallatin. Family visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the Lake Viking Church. Friends may call after 11am Monday at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Advantage of Gallatin or Children's Mercy Hospital of Kansas City.

Gene was a loving husband, father and grandfather who proudly served in World World II as a Corporal. He received a distinguished bronze star for participating in a European campaign.

Following the war he obtained an undergraduate degree from Park College and a law degree from University of Missouri - Kansas City. Gene graduated with distinction within two years and was a candidate of Juris Doctorate.

In 2005 Gene was recognized for 50 years of admission to the Missouri Bar. Within these years he served as the Clay County Prosecuting attorney for four years and a Missouri State Representative for another four years. He resigned undefeated just prior to becoming a private practicing attorney in Clay County. He also served as a lobbyist for the Missouri Independent Bankers Association and the Missouri Restaurant Association in Jefferson City, Mo.

Throughout his career as a Lawyer and lobbyist Gene gained national attention for representing several high profile clients. He has been profiled on television shows including, 60 Minutes, Oprah, and Larry King Live as well as several print media outlets including, Time Magazine, Playboy, and Rolling Stone.

In 1995 Gene and his wife, Joanne, moved to Lake Viking where he opened a law firm in Gallatin, Mo. Soon after, his daughter Tracy joined him in the practice of law.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents.

Gene is survived by his wife Joanne of the home, children; Debra Perez and husband Steven, Tracy McFadin and husband James Keim, Tina McFadin and husband Kenneth Powell, Cynthia McFadin, all of Kansas City, MO, Brian Kresse and wife Nikki of Dallas, TX, Julie McGurren and husband Mark of Prairie Village, KS. Gene has eighteen grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Joanne, We were so sorry to hear of Gene's passing. He will be missed by many people. We remember the time we came and stayed with you over a Memorial Day weekend several years ago and how we felt right at home with you and Gene, just an extended part of the family coming together. I am so sorry to hear about your dad! I lost my dad last august and I know how shattered you must feel by this loss. I think you never get over the loss of a parent but you learn to move on and hold them in your hearts. You are such a great guy--I am sure he was so proud of you! Please extend my condolences to your mom and the rest of your family. i will definitely keep you all in my prayers.

Joanne & Family, I just heard about Gene passing away. I'm so sorry for your loss. You all have so many fond memories of his love for each and everyone of you. Gene was such a wonderful person, friend, and boss. I enjoyed working for him when he first opened his part-time law firm in Gallatin. I have a lot of wonderful memories of the 4th of July bbq's at the lake, and dinner's in KC. I know you and your family will truly miss Gene. Myself and my family will miss a good friend.
