Not sure what to say?

I was just talking about how wonderful Dick was this morning when another staff member shared that Dick had died. My heart fell. I always enjoyed chatting with him in the mornings when he came to check out a sub laptop at the Southridge library. I will miss his smile and his charm. My sympathies to his family. I know you miss him more.

While working as a science teacher at Cedar Park Middle School, I came to know Dick who subbed for me on many occasions, as well as for my colleagues. Dick was very personable from the first time I met him and I relished our conversations about education, football and life in general. I also greatly appreciated Dick´s dry humor and occasional "dad" jokes. Dick had a great way with the students as he was polite, kind, an encourager and oh so helpful in guiding them towards being good citizens....

Such a kind soul - ever the gentleman. I became acquainted with Dick as the WHS secretary who scheduled substitute teachers. Whenever Dick was in the building he would bring his trademark smile, his upbeat quips and his willingness to step up and do whatever was needed. It was always reassuring to have him on staff for the day. He shared his faith through his care and attention to each individual. I count myself blessed to have known him.

I was one if his many students at SHS. He was a superb teacher, coach, and mentor to so many of us. Always humble, with a self-deprecating, and wickedly funny sense of humor. He dedicated a large part of his working career to helping kids become adults in a kind and thoughtful way. In pace requiescat, Mr. McFall.
