Not sure what to say?

I was a big fan of the poems of Richard E. McMullen. Finding out about his 2006 death only now in 2024 seems right somehow - for me, way down here in south Texas, he did not die, he has not died, he will not die. I'm reading his poem "Zoe at the Nursing Home" again and thinking how alive it is. Thank you, Richard, Dick, humble and kind penpal and great poet.

I had Mr. McMullen for creative writing at Pioneer in 1985 and he was (and still is) my favorite teacher. I remember he always had Certs in his pocket that he willingly shared. :-)
I am sorry for your loss.

Dear Beverly and family,
Richard was a great man and teacher. His editing skills proofreading the Church Mouse here at Peoples Presbyterian Church taught me many things. He was always a gentlemen and patient with everyone. His wit and laughter was most enjoyable. He will be sadly missed. May you all find comfort knowing that he is safe in our Fathers arms. May his love for words live on in and through us who have had the pleasure of knowing him. Many blessings, peace and comfort to...

Dear Beverly and Family, When my husband died, Richard wrote a beautiful poem that told of their friendship. It brought me great joy and solace. I will send you all a copy. We have been friends since 1936. We will all sorely miss his love of music, as well as his dry wit and wisdom. In loving memory and with my deepest prayers, Jane Ann

The Clague School era from its beginning in 1972 until Richard Nowland's retirement in 1992 was the "Golden Era" of education for many of us in Ann Arbor. Dick McMullen was the wit and voice for all the dedicated teachers/staff at that school during those marvelous days: RustyS.,Stan,Ken,Dan,Judy,MaryJane,
Ruth,Rivard,Lou,Hal,Linda,Sue,
Carroll,RustyT.,Bob,Gail,MadelineC.
,and others. Nothing made us happier than making Dick McMullen laugh because it was always the other way...

I am sure thinking of all of you.

Take care.....

My life is fuller and my outlook sweeter having sat at Richard's left hand during open mic poetry night at The Lighthouse in Milan. I am honored to have shared his love for words...even though they escape me now.
