He was my first boss right out of MSU. Integrity, staunch values and good advice always come to mind when I think of Mr. Milliman. I am proud to have called him a friend. He will be missed.

Dick was a friend and colleague on the first Geo Romney campaign in 1962... and he showed a great sense of humor by laughing when told of an escapade during the 1962 fall campaign.
After a Central MI Univ event on a Fri afternoon Geo and Lenore, said to me "Don, take Mitt and head back to Bloomfield and we are going to have Fred (Grassman) drive us to Traverse City for the weekend... we'll be back on Monday."
So I took "Tim Yenmor" the nom de plume Mitt used and we first went into Lansing and took a tour the Capital and the office of Gov Swainson thou he was not in the office the secretary gave us a tour. Being the youthful duo we were "Tim" asked and I was allowed to take this high school visitors picture sitting in Gov Swainson's official office chair... behind his desk...
Needless to say the picture never saw the light of day as the filmed was destroyed when the Romney's learned of it in Mitt's proud Monday morning story telling!
Thou Art Elliot and Geo Romney were concerned about potential bad PR that could come of this stunt, they were joined by Dick in snickering and smiling with a little laughter about the fun prank like humor underlying this incident.
Time proved us right and they saw the humor in our saying Mitt was just warming the chair for his Dad who in just a couple months began sitting in that chair for many years!
Dick was always a great sport, and a respected and honorable professional. The pictured smile here is truly reflective of the Dick I knew fifty four years ago.

I first knew Dick Milliman in 1950-51 when I was a student manager of the Holland High School football team and he was a sports writer for the Holland Evening Sentinel.
We crossed paths many times in ensuing years, when he was at the State Journal, with the Romney administration, a well-known newspaper publisher and until recently a darn good golfer and longtime member of our Saturday morning NoGuff golf group.
He was a good friend and a great person. I was always proud to know him and I will miss him greatly.

In years past, as an employee of the Country Club of Lansing, I became acquainted with Mr. Milliman. He was a true gentleman, a very nice person and one who was liked by all. May our Heavenly Father bless him.
