Richard D. Monaghan, 81, passed away at home under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County, March 19, 2024.


Richard was born in Watertown on January 28, 1943, to Donald Richard Monaghan and Elizabeth (Woods) Monaghan.  He was a graduate of Watertown High School, and was later employed by the New York Air Brake Company, where he worked as a plumber & pipe fitter for over twenty-five years.


Richard was known as an avid sportsman and musician.  One of his favorite pastimes was fishing the many smaller lakes located in Upstate NY with his family and friends.  He also played rhythm guitar and was a performing member in several local bands during his youth. Richard was a steadfast Syracuse Orange and NY Rangers hockey fan.


He is survived by his wife Karen L. Monaghan, his two sons, Donald R. Monaghan, Watertown, Kevin W. Monaghan, Florida, and his Granddaughter Emma E. Monaghan. 


Calling hours will be held on April 5, 2024 from 10am to 11am. A celebration of life will follow from 11am to 12pm; both services to be performed at the Grace Wesleyan Church (311 Prospect Street Watertown, NY 13601). A Celebration of Life reception luncheon will take place at 12:30pm at the Life Church of the Nazarene (535 Thompson Blvd, Watertown, NY 13601).

Prayers for his wife and the family -- knew him well when we were @ NYAB - I was 1 of 3 Paymaster that handed out the pay checks every week for 21 years before Knorr came into the picture - a lot of my old friends are now gone to be with the Lord - 36 years of wonderful Memories and what the OLD NYAB had done for the Watertown Area - it was Truly a city within a city - people cared for there neighbor and to Think that there was at one time more than 2100 employed there - GODS BLESSING Karen...

I have so many fond memories of Dickie. When I was a little girl Dickie played in a band, so I always thought he was famous. I use to brag to all my friends about Dickie and Bobby Wade and Dick Peer. I also remember when Dickie and Karen were just going together. He always only had eyes for her. It was funny that my son Ryan went to a U-haul store in Syracuse and the guy that was waiting on him saw his signature and said my last name is Monaghan too. Ryan then said yeah but I spell my name...
