RICHARD NAUGHTON Obituary

NAUGHTON, RICHARD J. Richard J. Naughton, of San Diego, California, passed away at his home on Friday, February 25, 2011. Dick was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on October 5, 1946, to Roland and Laurine Naughton and attended Immaculate Conception and graduated Regis High School. In 1964, he headed east to attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, a move which marked the beginning of a distinguished 40 year naval career. Dick was a devoted Catholic, avid golfer and never missed an opportunity to hit the links. He enjoyed the challenge even more when the outcome rested on a bit of a wager. Dick is survived by his wife, Jackie, their son, Sean, and his wife, Amanda; his sister, JoAnn Scanlan, and her husband, Jack Scanlan; his brother, Bob, and his wife, Peggy; his sister-in-law Kay; his sister-in-law, Jeri Reutter; his faithful companion, Golden Retriever, Max; and many wonderful friends and family. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Jim, and his sister, Joyce. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 3, 2011, from 3 to 7 p.m. at El Camino Memorial Chapel, 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego. A funeral service will be held the following morning, Friday, March 4th, at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 11451 Blue Cypress Drive, San Diego. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: U.C. Regents, attn Gordon Yung, M.D., to benefit the pulmonary transplant program at UCSD Medical Center, San Diego.

Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of ADM Naughton. I served with him while on the Carrier Group FOUR staff. It was always an educational experience to visit other commands with him because of the indepth questions he would ask. Now he's home with the Master.
