Richard was not only a fine chessplayer but also one of the most generous people I have known. I was a recipient of this generosity when Richard helped myself and several other young players participate in the 1977 US Open in Columbus. Over the years I saw him help many other chess players including Grandmaster Gregory Serper. I never heard anyone in the chess comminity have a negative word to say about him. Richard will be missed.

Sally, I didn't know Butch, but I know how much you and Carl cared for him over the last few years. Your devotion and tenderness were a loving gesture towards his time here on earth. God bless you during this time of loss. May you feel comfort and peace in knowing he is no longer suffering.

Dick,
The chess parties at Steve's will never be the same without you.
Thanks for being in my life with grand memories of all the good times we knew.
Thanks from my entire family for being 'Godfather' to number three daughter, Kathe, and the joy we received from knowing you.
The U.S.C.F. may have lost a great organizer, but I have lost a close friend, and I feel the pain dearly.

Dick Noel was truly a gentleman and a scholar. He will be greatly missed. For all his chess fans out there I have included a game and a photo from the 1965 Ohio Chess Congress that he won 7-0.
