Dear Marion,

I'm uncertain that you and I ever met, but Richard was my closest friend during our years at Vanderbilt. I did not know of his passing until I opened the latest copy of Vanderbilt Magazine tonight. I was shocked, to say the least.

Richard and I had communicated with each other via email many months ago regarding a physical problem we both shared.

Marion, you probably won't remember me because I only lived in Fairhope and worked with Richard for a year. However, he was a bright spot in that year. When I think of him, I think of of a joyous man who loved life but mostly his family. He made the world a better place.

I was so sorry to hear the news about Richard. You and your family are in my prayers. Marion, I was saddened for you and the girls to hear of Richard's passing. We all lost Joe this past August, so it is still fresh for me. Let your family and friends minister to you, Marion. God will take care of you is never truer than during this time for you. I will call you in the near future, but God's grace will keep you going.

I am saddened to hear of Richard's passing. He was constantly, often behind the scenes, working for Mobile and South Alabama's growth & development for decades. My father, Forrest Little, worked with him on many community projects and I was honored to do the same.

I wish his family peace and pride in the fact that he did so much for so many, and he will be remembered for years for that.
