Beloved husband for 67 years of Mariette Palmer (nee Schemmer), whom he met at the age of 15; son of the late Marjorie Palmer (nee Dickson) and Charles F. Palmer; stepson of the late Dario Carbone; brother of Patricia Bywater, Stuart Palmer, the late Charles F. Palmer III and Charlene Palmer; our dear uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.

Dick at 5’9” was the Missouri state high jumping champion, clearing the bar at 6’4” doing the Fosbury Flop. Henry E. Schemmer, his future father-in-law, was his coach.

He graduated from the University of Missouri with three degrees in engineering. He worked at McDonald Douglas until he joined the Navy as a lieutenant jg. serving under Captain Preston at Cubi Point, Philippines where he blew up all obsolete World War II quonset huts and built a photo lab. He was honorably discharged with an excellent progress report.

Dick worked at Ernst and Ernst in St. Louis as a consultant, he then worked at Western Textile Products Company as manager for twenty-seven years under his beloved president, Jake Van Dyke.

Dick and Mariette were active in local politics, creating the present-day City of Town and Country, leading to the establishment of other municipalities throughout Missouri.

Not sure what to say?

Thinking of you!

Dear Mariette,
I am thinking of you. You and Dickie welcomed me with open arms and lead the way for so many. Thank you both for years of leadership and dedication. I see Dickie's tree at Longview all the time. Peace to you. Anne Nixon

I am heartbroken by the loss of Uncle Dick. When his brother, our father died, he stepped in to be a constant presence in our life, even from a distance. Whether it was his sage advice for our latest problems or just great conversations about the state of the world, he was always there for us. I do miss the conversations we would have - spending an hour on the phone like it was 10 minutes. He showed his love for his family in different ways but you always knew. He will be missed by me and...

a great love and athlete and sweetheart to many especially his Mariette!!!!

So sad to hear of Dick´s passing. Such wonderful memories of Dick and Merriett with my parents, Warren and Pat Ober, traveling together, Innsbrook, and family gatherings. Rest in peace.

May Dick´s memory be a blessing and my sincere condolences to Marietta and Dick´s family and many friends. I remember watching Dick and Ken Green play tennis to improve my own game! Barbara Green in Phoenix, Arizona

I am a former Western Textile employee and remember Dick well. I would like to express my sympathy to the family. Kellie

Dickie, your very best talent was always to smile and remain quiet when Mariette and her friends - including me - were planning some outrageous activity to undercut the dastardly policies of our town council!! You offered wisdom and insight when asked; otherwise, you simply made sure that Mariette would always be safe and sound. You were a true gentleman and a tremendously loyal friend. And, most importantly, you were Mariette's soulmate. I know you will continue to watch over her in the...

A good friend in high school. Dick will be missed
