Richard Proulx

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

In 1970 Richard wrote a Beautiful treatment to the Liturgy "Gloria In Excelsis" Being a member of All Saints Episcopal Church of Beverly Hills, Ca. we immediately adopted it as our weekly Anthem. Copies of it were printed out and pasted in the Front Page of our Hymnals. I am sure that Richard must have known our Choir Director at the time. His name was Owen Brady and he was also head of the Bureau of Music for the City of Los Angeles. His work lives on and he shall be eternally...

I was an acoylte at St. Stephen's Church in Seattle in 1971, where Richard Proulx was organist and choirmaster. When you listened to the beautiful music from Richard Proulx and the choir, you never doubted that there was a God. The music ministry of Mr. Proulx really helped establish me in the Christian faith.

I had the distinct pleasure of performing "We Adore You, O Christ" for the very first time for Peter Bahou, for whom it was dedicated. Thank you for blessing the Church with your music!

I'm listening to one of Richard's extraordinary perfect choral CD's: this time his recording choir has just sung "Emitte spiritum".
We have lost a giant.
A Friend

We used Richard's brilliant handbell arrangements at the Cathedral of St. Paul, a wondrous space for his music. He had encouraged Msgr. Hayden to purchase the Petit and Fritsen Bells and they matched Proulx's arrangements to perfection.
Among other occasions, we rang the astonishing "Christ the Lord Is Ris'n Today" (from "The Pilgrim") at the Easter Vigil. Those musical liturgical memories will never be forgotten.
How lucky we were to have met him in this life.

I was a high-schol classmate of Richard's also. We sang together in Sister Maxilinda's Mixed Chorus, and also in Rev. John Sweeney's Gilbert and Sullivan Productions at the Catholic Youth Center in St. Paul, MN.
During those days, he was a good bass, and besides that, fun.
He was a musical giant. I am so sorry he's gone.

I was blessed to be able to sing with Richard many years ago at Holy Childhood Parish in St. Paul, MN. To this day I am still singing in a guitar group at church and it's all because of the wonderful direction and commitment to perfection shown to me while singing under the meticulous direction of Richard.
