Richard Quevedo Obituary

Richard Quevedo
February 20, 1938 - June 15, 2022
Fort Worth, Texas - Richard Lopez Quevedo was born in Dallas, Texas on February 20, 1938, and passed away June 15, 2022 at the age of 84 years old. Richard, the son of Carmen Lopez Gonzales, was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was raised by his "grandparents" Joe and Juanita Quevedo in Fort Worth, Texas, was a 1957 graduate of Trimble Tech High School. Richard was a retired employee with Winn Dixie Stores, where he worked his way for 30+ years from the bottom up to numerous managerial positions including Fleet Superintendent, Logistics Manager and Director of Hiring for the Texas Division. Richard was raised in the historic Northside of Fort Worth and participated throughout his life in the fight for the advancement of the Latino community in Fort Worth. These efforts included being a long-time member and officer with the San Jose Mutual Society, including State President of the Mutualistas of Texas, and a former member and Tarrant County President of PASO (Political Association of Spanish-Speaking Organizations). His impact and significance in his efforts were recognized and felt by all and in his honor an American Flag flown over the United States Capitol on May 2, 2001, at the request of the Honorable Martin Frost, Member of Congress, in recognition of his dedication and contributions to the Hispanic Community and all of Tarrant County. Betty Andujar, a Texas State Senator led the commissioning of Richard in 1977 as an Admiral in the Texas Navy, as recognition for his continued efforts for the Latino community. Richard along with his wife Delores taught ESL classes at night for several years, was a member of the Edgecliff Village Fellowship, supervisor for Tarrant County Elections and a parishioner at St. Andrew Catholic Church and previously of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Following his retirement, Richard loved and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren playing games, telling stories, and watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. He was a big proponent of education and therefore when not cheering for his beloved Yankees, he became a man of many hats worn for his children and grandchildren who attended various universities. It was common to see him and cheer in a Texas Wesleyan, Midwestern State, Texas A&M, Texas, Florida, UT-Arlington, Texas Tech, West Texas A&M or Creighton hat and shirt. Along with his wife, they never missed an opportunity to root or represent for one of these universities.
Richard reunites with his wife of 61 years, Delores Quevedo, his mother, brother Manuel "Pepe" Gonzales and sister Dolores "Lola" Hernandez. Richard is survived by his four children and their spouses, Richard "Dickie" William Quevedo and wife Corina, Stephen Louis Quevedo and wife Melissa, Melinda Anne Delk and husband David, Vidal Jesse Quevedo and wife Stephanie; and eight grandchildren, Richard Thomas Quevedo, Cal William Quevedo, Brian Christian Quevedo, Jack Rothell Delk, Alyssa Marie Quevedo, Anne Lauren Delk, Jay Wilson Quevedo and Jake Brooks Quevedo, in addition to step-grandchild Alex Maldonado, as well as his brother Abel Gonzales (Gloria) and sister Rosemary Calzada (Pancho), numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. More importantly Richard leaves a legacy as a great man and father who taught those closest to him the importance of family and community.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, located at 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas.
