Richard Robinson, devoted husband and avid outdoorsman, passed away at his home in Durango, CO on July 27th. On that day, the world lost a wonderful man. He made this rock better by "doing". His activism and tireless volunteering should be an example for each of us. Richard was born in Milwaukee,...

Not sure what to say?

Rich, We miss you! Thanks for all the great hikes and your wealth of knowledge.

Richard and I shared many an adventure in the mountains--dozens of climbs, backpacks, and 10th Mountain hut trips. He was a great companion and friend who shared his love and enthusiasm for wildness from the highest peaks to the smallest wildflowers. He will be missed by many but his spirit will always live out there.

The planet has lost a great guy, a gentle giant among men. Always soft spoken, knowledgeable, and understanding. I'll miss his wisdom of the mountains.

Too soon! I'm very glad I had a chance to know Richard and to attend several field trips with him. He was so knowledgeable about rock art and archaeology! He was charming, fun and always willing to share what he knew. He was an asset to our CAS chapter and a great guy--you will be missed, Richard.

Richard was a real inspiration both in Durango where we were active in the San Juan Basin chapter as well as in Cortez with the Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado archaeological Society. Richard was an outstanding mountain climber, scaling Kilimanjaro as well as peaks in the Himalaya, South America and Mexico. His love of rock art sites brought us closer, and we shared many. We were often consulting about sites, and we concurrently served on the Board of Hisatsinom as well as docents at Crow...

Oh, so sorry to read this Linda!!! My thoughts are with you during this trying time. I loved it when Richard would come into the office with you, because he would always tell me interesting stories about Sand Canyon or The Ute Mountain Tribal Park. So sorry for your loss.

Linda, my heart goes out to you. You and Richard have been on my mind a lot lately with the fires near Durango .... shades of Missionary Ridge. I loved working with you both during that fire and visiting with you later in your home. You both were so welcoming and warm. I will always remember those times. The world needs more people like you two. Words are just ever enough to express grief, loss, sympathy. Know you are in our thoughts.

An amazing guy who loved the Four Corners area, and who gave so much to so many. He knew a lot and shared what he knew without prejudice or limits. He never ran out of enthusiasm for field trips to petroglyph panels, and he knew where all the good restaurants were on any journey. I celebrate the gift of his life.

To Richard's wife and family - will never forget Richard's twinkling eyes, his passion for all things archaeological, and his determination to support his passion with constant volunteer work - for our Hisatsinom Chapter of CAS and in so many other ways. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. RIP, Richard.
