Richard Holliway Rodda

I grew up as a neighbor to the Rodda family in the forties and fifties. I knew Dick as a Great father and neighbor. My sympathy to Laurena, Kathryn, Gayle and Scott.

I am so sorry to hear about Dick. Even though I have not seen him in a very long time, I remember him fondly from my days as a member of Freeport Christian Church. He was a very soft spoken person but knew how to get things done around the church. He was an inspiration and I am happy to have known him.

When we look back at the Bee of the 40s and 50s and think of the young guys sitting around the City Desk we now realize what a talented group they really were. In the 60s and 70s they took the paper to new, higher levels of excelence.
Dick Rodda was one of the best of the best and had the highest respect of his colleagues at the paper, over at the Capitol and around the State. Respect that was well deserved.
I'd like to think that Dick and Pete Phillips are up there talking...

Dick Rodda taught me much about the craft of journalism, especially fairness. He proved you didn't have to be cynical to be a tough reporter. He was passionate about his views but he never let them creep into print. A great role model.

We have been employed by the Rodda Family for about 15 years. It was my pleasure to visit with Mr. Rodda and share some wonderful stories of his travels,and interests in the Railways. He was a fine example to his entire family.Wendy and Lew Earls

What a fair-minded and committed journalist Dick was!
For us younger pups..he was a true role model of the excellence possible in the craft.
He was always so kind and gracious to me.
I admired..and appreciated Dick greatly!
