When I was Dr. Rubenstein´s student assistant in 1971 his first year at FSU, I would drop by the his office on the way to the beach on the gulf coast. "No," he would say, "don´t have anything for you to do; go, enjoy yourself." He knew, my youth with my friends was more important than any research I could have done for him. Lesson learned, Richard, and thanks for encouraging fun!

Dr.Rubenstein had a profound intellectual influence on a generation of students at the university of Pittsburgh in the 1960’s . His classes in Existential philosophy were among the most well attended with a waiting list for enrollment. I was privileged to attend all the various classes he thought and I have kept my class notes to this day.
