Mr Russell was an inspiration to many. He was one of my favorite teachers at Whittier Elementary (RIP). I always looked forward to "gym" days. He guided me toward winning the presidential award for physical fitness and the AAHPER awards. What a wonderful guy. Condolences and prayers for his family.

I loved Mr. Russell, he was my gym teacher at Whittier elementary. He made such a large impact that me and my siblings still talk about him at gatherings. I am sorry for the loss of someone so special who made such a great impact on so many

As a young person I attended Oakland Elementary School in Royal Oak I remember Mr Russell taught Gym or Physical Education he was the Coolest Gym Teacher . The Students always looked up to him as because he was tall but showed him respect , Thank You Mr Russell you will be missed and May you Rest In Peace
