SHERMAN- Richard “Dick” D. Sanders, 88, of Sherman, died Friday, September 27, 2019 at his home.


     He was born June 23, 1931 in Jamestown, NY the son of the late Robert and Lillian Slayton Sanders.


     Dick had worked for the Agway Farmers Mill in Sherman for over forty-two years. He also raised dairy cows and pigs for many years.


     He was a life member of the Stanley Hose Fire Co of Sherman, a life member of the Chautauqua County Fireman’s Fraternity and past director, a member of the state and Chautauqua County Fire Police, past President of Chautauqua County Association, past Chairman of Chautauqua County Fireman’s Gala Days at Stockton, and past Cubmaster and Scoutmaster of the Sherman Troop.


    Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping at Stockton Fireman’s Campground, his yard stick collection, and time with his friends and family.


    He is survived by his two sons; Kevin Sanders of Sherman, Harold (Debra) Sanders of Sherman, his many grandchildren and great grandchildren, one sister; Mary Hall of Westfield, several nephews and a niece, and a special friend; Helen Reynolds.


     Dick was preceded in death by his wife; Jacquline Eleanor Bagley Sanders, whom he married July 6, 1951, his parents, two sons; Richard A. Sanders, and Teddy Sanders, one daughter; Mary Sanders Manke, one grandson; Christopher Sanders, one brother; Robert Sanders, and one daughter in-law; Julie Sanders.


      The funeral will be held at 11AM on Friday, October 4, 2019 at the Freay Funeral Home (139 S Erie St) in Mayville. Burial will be in the Sherman Cemetery.


       Friends will be received for calling hours from 4-7PM on Thursday, October 3rd, at the funeral home.


       In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Stanley Hose Fire Department (122 Park St, Sherman, NY 14781) or to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care (20 W. Fairmount Ave, Lakewood, NY 14750).
