You were my next door neighbors all of my childhood. I remember the day Dick picked me up and carried me home when I fell off my bike, and I can still see Mandy running up the hill chasing after cars. I am SO sorry for your loss. Dick was a great man & I have so many wonderful memories of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Schaffner family. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I had the pleasure of working with Dick during my employment with the Canton Chapter of the American Red Cross/Rape Crisis Center years ago. He was very pleasant and always a gentleman. He will be missed by many.

I lived across the street from "Richie" and remember him washing his car every day. We would sometimes wait till he was done drying it off then throw a bucket of water on it. He never was mad, he just smiled and continued drying. He will be missed. Susie (Ruch) Sutton

I remember that he took absolute pride in his car and his uniform. There was not a speck of dirt inside or out on his "star car" and his buttons and shoes were always shined and narry a wrinkle anywhere on his uniform. He was very proud of being a Stark County Deputy Sheriff and serving the people of Stark County. RIP

To the Schaffner Family, We lived a few doors down from your family for 28 years. Dick was always a good and kind neighbor. Always ready to lend a helping hand when needed. We were robbed shortly after moving into the neighborhood. Dick was at our house within five minutes of our call to the SO offering his help and support. A truly nice neighbor and a wonderful family man. Thank you, Dick for your service to our country and also for your service to the community of Stark County. We will pray for the family. Rest in Peace, Dick!
