I started working for NASA in 1982 working in Dick's Branch

My favorite memory of Dick was when we went sailboat racing at Wheeler. Dick had a Oday day sailing boat, I think about 21’. Anyway, during the second race it was setup to be more of a downwind race so Dick setup the spinnaker. We got a great start and was near the lead of the boats going around the first mark. Dick told me to get ready to pull down the jib, get the spinnaker pole ready, and which line to pull to raise...

Dick led the UAH adult class (now Osher Lifetime Learning Institute (OLLI)) hikes for a number of years. We met every Friday at 9:a. m. to hike Green Mountain, Monte Sano, Rainbow Mountain, Wade Mountain and others. He allowed dogs and I always brought my miniature poodle. Dick also taught orienteering and first aid. He was cheerful, knowledgeable, high energy and a good story teller. Miss you, Dick.

I worked with Dick for several years at Logicon Control Dynamics. His smile was so contagious. My thoughts and prayers are with Dick's family and friends.

A true American hero - going forward to joyous things. Wishing comfort to his family.

We are so sorry for your loss. The staff and I from the Hoover Senior Center will miss Mr. Schock's infectious smile and kind-heart. He took his fitness seriously and was so dedicated in participating in our group fitness classes. What an inspiration he was.
