Dick was my friend, as he was a great friend to many. Everything Dick tried he did exceptionally well. We used to joke that he would tee up, look like he was going to fall over, then hit a hole in one. He could play pool, play the organ, play cards, and woodwork all with expert level as well as many other tasks he tried and mastered. I graduated from East Rockford High School with Dick and we had many fine times together. We stayed in touch over the years and I visited him in Rockford when I was in the area. He will be missed.

I knew Dick Shields from two occasions. When I was assistant treasurer at Commercial Mortgage & Finance, he used to service the typewriters there. I also knew him from Pecatonica United Methodist when he attended there. My sympathy to the family.
