Richard Randall Shumway, 82 of Mesa, Arizona died Monday, March 31, 2008. He was born May 10, 1925 in Long Beach, CA to Aquilla Frank Shumway and Mabel Lavern Randall Shumway. He moved at the age of 9 months with his family to Needles, CA. Again at the age of 2 the family moved to Winslow, AZ where he remained and graduated from Winslow High School in 1943. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Scoutmaster, Bishop, a temple worker and in many other auxiliary positions. He and his wife served a full time mission on the island of Niue in the South Pacific. He graduated as a mechanical engineer from the University of Arizona in 1947, going on to become a professional engineer and chief engineer vice-president of Chubco Bakery Equipment Co. in Oakland, CA. He proudly served our country in WWII. Richard was a devoted husband, loving son, father, brother, grandfather and a trusted friend to all who knew him. Richard leaves behind not only the love of his family, but of all who knew him. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Adelia (Huggins) Shumway whom he married on June 27, 1947. He is also survived by three sons Richard Randall Shumway, Jr., Michael Dwayne Shumway (Barbara), Stephen Frank Shumway (Patrice) and two daughters Marsha Ann Shumway Peterson (Ron) and Deborah Lynn Shumway Whetten (James), fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, a sister and brother-in-law Joyce Shumway Beydler (Royce). He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 6:00–8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2008 at the Aspen Ward, 1249 S. 48th St., Mesa, AZ. The family suggests contributions in Richard's name be sent to Hospice of the Valley, 6063 Arbor Ave., Building C, Mesa, AZ 85206.
