Not sure what to say?

I recall back in 1990 I brought a Jamaican reggae band to a grange hall down on Toll road in Reno, calling the event "Reggae Against Racism." I arranged to have Dr. Siegel give a brief speech on human rights between musical sets. That night, hundreds of boisterous young fans were in attendance, creating a rowdy vibe over which Dr. Siegel had to speak and make his points. I´ll always remember how valiantly he carried on, ultimately getting a nice cheer of approval from the crowd before the...

As a former student of Dr. Siegel and also his waiter at the Great Full Gardens restaurant in Reno in his final days, I was always impressed and moved by the gentleness of spirit that accompanied his fiercely held convictions, and how he always saw the good in me. As much as he enjoyed espousing his own opinions, he always seemed genuinely interested in mine.

Dr. Siegel was a supportive and validating professor to me in the lone political science class I took during my days at UNR. Later he was kind enough to subject himself to 300 boisterous reggae fans as the between set guest speaker at a live “reggae against racism” event I threw some 30 years ago in Reno. Lately he was a pleasant regular customer at the restaurant where I work. We never reminisced, but instead engaged in conversation about politics and the condition of this old world. I...

What an incredible human being. Rich was our professor, friend and confidant. We will miss him in so many ways, too many to count. Rich,
may you return to the those who went before you and know your time on earth made a difference.

On behalf of the Fredianelli family,Richard,Sandy,Marc and Cara, we send our deepest sympathy on the passing of your father. He was one of the first people we met on Rowland Rd. We always enjoyed his conversations.

We were young students without transportation and needed a late night ride home after returning from the 1972 State Democratic Convention in Las Vegas. Of course, Dr. Siegel volunteered and delivered a car load of students to their homes. Professor Siegel was a hero in so many small and large ways. Thank you Sir.

He was a force of nature, never to be denied, and he did much good for all citizens of Nevada. He will be missed in future battles, but his memory will inspire us to continue the fight.
