Not sure what to say?

Your memory stays alive. You played a major part in my career and life. F

I arrived at Stony Brook one year earlier than Dick, so we knew each other a long, long time. It is sad that we sort of lost touch when he took his final leave of the university and even sadder that the few miles that separated us turned into long years. Dick was outspoken and plain spoken on issues in the most catholic sense and while he would not suffer fools, he was usually quite kind. I truly regret that I lost touch with his brilliant mind, his sense of humor and his humanity.

I am so very sad to learn of Doc Solo's passing. Echoing the sentiments below, a goodly number of those connected with him at Stony Brook can surely agree to his positive influence on their lives down the decades.
Doc Solo made an indelible mark on my life. To this day, I can channel a vision of him leaning back in his chair amid his books and paper stacks, just past the helms of Harriet and Helen, and hear his chuckle, feel the tenor and pace of his voice whatever was said was wise...

Reunion with some friends from Kelly B.

Deepest condolences to the Solo family. Dr. Solo was such a wonderful man and his sense of humor and warmth are two of the things I remember most about him. I worked for him in the Orientation office for year and then moved into the ranks of the Orientation staff for my last year. It was great experience for a life of many titles and dealing with many different sorts of people. His patience has always remained with me. He was a lovely man, may he rest in peace.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Solo. For half of my college years I had the amazing privilege of working with him in New Student Orientation both as a leader and as an administrative assistant. Honestly, those were some of the best memories of my life. Dr. Solo was bright, humorous, insightful and always challenged you to work harder and think outside the box. He was a 'people person' and I know for a fact that he played a large role in the development of many of Stony...

So sorry to hear about Dr. Solo's passing. I look back at my 35+ years of work in higher education with the realization that he was my ultimate mentor and role model. I learned so much from his developmental approach, mastery of group dynamics and great vision. His smile and hearty laugh will be greatly missed.
