Richard Eugene (Gene) Spradlin, 66, of Bedford, Va., passed away on Monday, September 29, 2008, in Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by his family. He fought a short but courageous battle with cancer. Eugene was born on May 4, 1942, in Roanoke, Va., a son of Catherine Dooley Spradlin of Bedford and the late Richard Leeland Spradlin. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by grandparents, Minnie Hughes and Alex Spradlin and Pearl Trent...

I want to say how sorry I am to hear about Gene. There are so many memories that it's hard to take all of this in. All I can do is say that I'm thinking of you and wish there was something I could do to help take away the pain. May God be with you.

It's been a long time but I remember when we were in school coming over to your house and how nice your dad was to me. I think about you often. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Keep his memories alive in your hearts until you see him again...and I truly believe you will. If you need a shoulder please know I'm still here for you.
