Groton - Richard N. Stanhope Sr., age 51, of 296 Mitchell St., Groton, passed away Wednesday morning, Aug. 1, 2007 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.

He was born in New London on Jan. 5, 1956, the son of Dora Scott Stanhope of Groton and the late Enos V. Stanhope Jr.

He was a 1974 graduate of Robert E. Fitch Sr. High School and had been employed as an outside machinist at Electric Boat Company.

Richard was a member of the Mystic Gun Club and the Machinist Union.

Besides his mother he is survived by his wife, Laurie Ann Landry Stanhope; a son, Richard N. Stanhope Jr. of Groton; three daughters, Mary Katherine Scott Stanhope, Lisa Marie Stanhope and Emily Ann Stanhope all of Groton; two brothers, Wayne and his wife, Doretha Artis Stanhope, of Dayville and Enos V. Stanhope III of Groton; a sister, Tracy Stanhope, of Groton; a granddaughter, Marley Alize Marshall; and a nephew and niece, Russell and Meagen Fallace.

A memorial service will be held on Friday evening at 7 o'clock at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Private interment will be in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
