Not sure what to say?

I just learned of Dick's passing from info received from Union College, where he and I were great friends. We remained in touch off and on thru the years, via email, as I lived in Illinois. We finally reconnected along with wife Anne, face to face, at our fiftieth reunion eight years ago. I was very much looking forward to seeing him again at what would be our sixtieth in a couple years, and will sorely miss him then.

I'm sorry to hear of Richard's death. We corresponded for years while I was in the Navy and I still have a stack of the letters and photos he sent. A great guy, photographer, and modeler.

Deepest condolences to all. I never had the pleasure of meeting Dick, but this sad news comes just as I am editing a story by his longtime friend Jeremy Plant scheduled to appear in our next issue ("Summer') of CLASSIC TRAINS magazine, a remembrance photo essay of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, in which he mentions meeting and then frequently traveling with Dick on hobby outings in decades past to take photos of their favorite railroad. We had used some of Dick's photos in an earlier article on...

Dick was passionate about his detailed train publishing. I was fortunate to work with him producing and printing his book titles. More enjoyable than working together were the lunches we shared discussing his love of family, soccer, and politics. He generously encouraged me to do business with the "non-wierdos" in our industry. My condolences to your Family and All is Friends.

To the Steinbrenner family, my sincere sympathies and condolences. Dick was a great friend and colleague for many years at Bell Labs. Please know that the work he did made a difference. I am very sorry for your loss.

I first met Richard & his wife at an open house at the ALCO Plant in 2001. Have been friends with him from that time on. His knowledge of ALCO history was incredible. I helped him with material when he wrote his first book.
Richard was a good friend and always willing to share his knowledge.
He will be missed....

May the Good Lord Bless Him and give him peace and hold him in a special place for such a good and kind man.

May the Lord Bless his wife and family during this...

Susan and I were deeply saddened to hear of Dick's passing. Dick and I shared a passion for trains that led to many happy hours together trackside on the Lehigh Valley along with his son Ted. Dick was a true friend and a devoted family man with a friendly demeanor and a generous heart. He and his family welcomed me into their house as a lonely soldier in 1970 and so began a long friendship. We co-authored a book on the Lehigh Valley and shared many photographic experiences. He will be...

To the Steinbrenner family,

My heartfelt condolences on your great loss.

It was an honor and pleasure to have known Dick as a co-worker and friend at Bell Labs. He was a leader and motivator, but also a compassionate, fair, and honest individual. He will be sorely missed.
