Not sure what to say?

Richard Thomas was more than just a "work partner". He was warm, caring, inspirational, and fun! He always had a smile and something upbeat to say. I am honored to call him a friend.

You would only need to meet Richard once for him to leave a lifelong impression . He embodied such a genuine spirit full of warmth and kindness , and caring for others . His light still shines !

Dear Family,. I would be there today save for my mother in law's service. Richard was a wonderful colleague and the kindest, most compassionate friend. We met at Hopkins in the 80"s and worked together in Baltimore for a few years, keeping in touch regularly through our local Occupational Medicine grouopo. He had a way of being inclusive just by his genuine concern for all. We spoke often of his family and his experience with raising a daughter after 2 sons (I have one of each). He was so...

Richard served his patients, friends, and colleagues in every way he could. What a kind, compassionate person! My deepest condolences to Anne and his loving family. Fair winds and following seas, Shipmate!

I knew Dr. Thomas through the residency program. Prior to his retirement, he served as the preceptor for residents who rotated through OSHA and was a member of our program evaluation committee for many years. Dr. Thomas was a wonderful colleague, always kind and thoughtful. He was an exemplary role model for the residents he mentored. We will miss him.

It was a pleasure and an honor to work and be guided by this thoughtful and caring colleague.

I am so saddened to hear this. Rich was a colleague, friend and teacher. One of the best officers I had the privilege to work with. He will be dearly missed. May God's Peace comfort those left behind.

Richard was my Director when I arrived at the Navy Environmental Health Center as a recently promoted Commander back in 2001. After 9-11 we helped teach chemical, biological and nuclear response classes throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and well as Spirometry training. Richard was a consummate educator, good mentor, and a very insightful physician. He was instrumental in developing the Medical Matrix computer program that is used by Occupational Health Clinics throughout the Navy to...

I knew Rich for the majority of his distinguished Navy career. We served together aboard USNS MERCY during her maiden voyage to the Western Pacific for humanitarian services in 1987. Rich was the finest Epidemiologist I served with in 24 years. His expertise in Public Health surveillance was legendary and well known throughout the Navy-Marine Corps Team and the U.S. Army during Desert Storm. Capt.Thomas was exceptional in every regard. It was a privilege and an honor to know and serve with...
