I googled Dr.Wakeman today to see if I could come visit my teacher who taught me entry level psychology classes and found this instead. He was an awesome teacher and very passionate about his subject. His classes were always fun, I never missed his classes not a single one.

Wow! I am so saddened by this news! He was my teacher and my Dr. Such a wonderful man with a compassionate soul-I hope to serve my patients as well as he did his.

He was an Amazing teacher at Tulane. He taught us the harmful effects of stress and made learning psychology fun and interesting. Dr. Wakeman helped us overcome our fears and laugh a lot.

I had the honor and privilege of working as Dr. Wakeman´s receptionist for many years at The Ochsner Clinic Dept. of Psychiatry. One of the things I helped him with was his "Stress Management Workshop". I could see firsthand how he helped so many people handle stress, be more assertive, and lead happier lives. He walked the walk. This was in addition to the many patients he saw and helped in the clinic. Through those years I learned so many things from him, but most importantly, what it means to be a good friend. He always made me feel I was appreciated. He helped me during some very hard times in my life. His humor helped all of us in the office during those years. His quick wit made us laugh on difficult and on good days. He shared many stories of his sons and his wife and loved them dearly. My husband, Phil and I - along with many co-workers - were able to see him play the drums at an Ochsner Christmas party and again at another of his performances with his band, "Dr. Rob and the Prescriptions". He so loved playing the drums. He handled his illness with strength and dignity to the very end, as he did with everything he did in life. He asked for prayers to see him through those last hard days, and he got them from so many family members and friends. I will miss him always and cherish the time I had with him. The memories of him will always make me laugh and smile. Rest in Peace , "JW" - my dear friend. Condolences to his family and many friends. He will never be forgotten.

John's smiling countenance will be missed by all of us who had the pleasure of calling him our friend. John will always be admired for the structured manner in which he managed his illness and that his passing came according to his own terms. Christina, I stand available to you and to the family for any and all help that I might be able to render.

John´s two sons, Jared & Devin, were in each of my sons classes at Newman. In our younger days we coached little league baseball together & followed the baseball careers of our sons all the way through a Newman state champion victory ..... an incredibly bonding experience. With all of our sons we did Indian Guides, went camping & canoeing together. We skied together in Colorado & spent much time together. John was very bright & energetic, but most important committed to those two boys. They were his world! We hadn´t spent much time together in later life, but memories of John are fresh & vivid. He will be sorely missed by his family & all who knew him. May His name remain a blessing for all eternity.

John & I were classmates and members of The Beggars Fraternity while at Loyola. I, thoroughly, enjoyed his company and friendship, we even shared an apartment one Summer during our college years. Sincere condolences to all members of his extended family.
