It was always a comfort to know that he is always there and reachable as a reference point in one's life.

Dick was an old friend of our family and long-time mentor of my father in the engineering field. Given this close relationship, the two of them met when travel and opportunities allowed, despite thousands of miles separating them. Dick was a very welcome guest at my Lutheran Church confirmation in Norway as well as my wedding in Oregon many years later, and his intelligence and wit were always a joy. My wife and I extend our sincere condolences to Dick’s family and loved ones.
