Dick was a very nice person. He led unusual hikes. The one that was great was in the get wet hike. We kept our back packs on. A very interesting hike.

Sorry to hear about Dick's passing. We met him through the Mountain Club of Maryland. Shortly after he joined the club, he started leading hikes. When I took over as coordinator for the intermediate group, I regularly asked to take a date for the next quarterly schedule. He always came through. And some of his hikes were fun and interesting. I enjoyed talking with Richard about NCAA lacrosse in May. What a great guy. He lived a full life. Laura and I always enjoyed visiting with him in Sherwood. Deepest sympathies.

He was instrumental in teaching me how to create trails and use markers when I first moved to Sherwood in 2004. I felt he always had a twinkle in his eye, a slight smile on his face. He was an easy person to talk to as he focused on the conversation. I´ll miss him.

Deepest sympathies to Dick's family...and what a wonderful, amusing and informative obituary! I met Dick through the Mountain Club of Maryland nearly 30 years ago, when he often traveled from Sherwood Forest and joined us for hikes in Northern Maryland. Dick always remembered your name and small details discussed on a previous hike. He was an intrepid hiker well into his 80s. Never one to talk too much about himself, one still sensed what a special gentleman Dick was. He will be missed not...
