Mr. Winter was my next-door neighbor for fourteen years, and I already miss him. He was an American hero and a generous man of his community. He was also a loyal friend and extremely dedicated family man. As years went by, Dick and I increasingly enjoyed each other's company, especially when our conversations turned to politics, national security and current events. He made me feel like part of his family, too, and that's a nice gift from a good man.
