Collier’s Funeral Home - Saint Ann Obituary

Richard (Rick) David Wohlschlaeger, 71, of St. Louis, MO, passed away on November 16, 2024. He is survived by his two sons, Ben (Emily) and Michael (Megan), three grandchildren - Ellie, Sophie, and Emma Grace - and siblings, Michael Wohlschlaeger, Barb Hutchins, and Nancy Means. Richard was preceded in death by Robert (Betty June) Wohlschlaeger.

Rick pursued his passion for ornithology at the University of Missouri, which later led to a successful career in sales and marketing within the pet food industry. Known for his charisma and captivating storytelling, Rick had a unique ability to engage those around him. His deep love for nature was evident in his photography, where he skillfully captured animals in their natural habitats. Birdwatching and photography in Costa Rica were among his favorite pastimes. Above all, Rick cherished his family and friends, and he found immense joy in sharing his love of nature with them.

A memorial service to honor Rick's life will be held at Collier’s Funeral Home on Monday, November 25th. Visitation will be from 5pm until 7pm, followed by the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the World Bird Sanctuary.

Not sure what to say?

Richard , it's took me awhile to sign this and say what I want to say to you . First to Michael and Ben and family , I am sorry about your loss of your Dad and Gramp's. Your Dad was a delight and funny man to have in my life . Kind and loving man and fit right in with my family. I loved Richard unconditionally and miss him . I am glad that the time we had together was very special and meant so much to him and I. I miss the music we loved to share , the laughs , your bossiness and your sweet...

I just found out, I'm so sorry to see this. Love you dear friend... Rest in Love ❤

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. I sure am going to miss my dear friend Rick, he has such a heart. Always willing to listen to what was going on in my life & to make his famous meatloaf with applesauce in the middle!

While I did not not know Mr. Wohlschlaeger, I have the honor of working with his son, Ben. Ben's dad leaves a loving legacy of family and strong values. My prayers and sympathies are with your family.

I met Rick on a business trip to Germany 20 years or so ago. I truly enjoyed every minute I was able to spent with him and was impressed by his personality the moment we shook hands. He knew more about the pet industry than I ever will. We stayed in close contact over the years, and finally he accepted a senior management position within our company. He was instrumental and built the foundation for our decision to later on construct a petfood plant in the US. I personally owe Rick more than I...

A curiosity for life and a heart for others. Rick left a major impact in Hermann, MO. He is missed. May peace find you

I will never forget Grampss contagious laugh and smile that always filled the room and his deep love for wildlife and nature that got passed on to me. Love you Gramps. Rest Easy

I knew Rick very well at Hoech Junior High School and Ritenour Senior High School. We even had a photography class together at Hoech. He was a good friend. I reconnected with him during the few years prior to our 50th reunion and we texted about his love for birds and photography. Many fond memories of Rick bring comfort to his family and friends.
