I have known Dickie since our pre teen age as we lived less than several hundred yards from each other. Although our in -person contact since those days have been few , Billy always gave me an update when I visited the mill when I was in Amherst. I will always remember our younger years. Served with Dick in the Amherst Fire Dept. What I remember most about him was being a new Firefighter and going to a major fire in downtown. Dick was working a high pressure inch and a half line. I asked if I could take over. He gave it to me and I did the typical mistake of letting it get away from me. He showed me how to take a correct stance and hold and gave it back to me.
