Not sure what to say?

It´s 2023 and this week a SMFA at Tufts University colleague and I were talking about Richard Yarde´s Ring Shout installation at Worcester Art Museum. He was my inspiration as an art student using watercolor for his mosaic like approach to color areas, using photographs as a source material and starting small and adding paper as needed until the painting was quite large. And his Harlem installation in watercolor remains unique in art history. As SMFA faculty, Richard Yarde spoke to my...

Richard was a gifted artist and an amazing teacher. Few were able to give and see so much. I send my condolences to the family.

Richard Yarde was a true American original. His mural scaled watercolors of African American life were singular in their vision. Painted in pure blocks of colors they looked like mosaics or a tapestry. I admired Richard as an art student and later as a guest speaker for my students at the Boston Museum School in the late 90s. He was generous in every way.
My deepest sympathies to his loved ones.

A brilliant, talented man with a great and generous soul has left us far too soon. My family and I send our condolences.

I remember when he had "Stompin' at the Savoy" on exhibit at Mount Holyoke College. Shirley Chisholm was touring the campus before she decided to teach there. She visited one of my classes and joyously told us how the exhibit brought back fond adolescent memories. It was great! Her eyes just sparkled.

I am extremely saddened to hear of Richie's passing. We were fraternity borthers at BU, and commuted together when Richie lived in Roxbury and I lived in Dorchester. He was an immensely talented artist and wonderful man. I thought of him often through the years and hoped to renew our friendship. I will always remember him fondly.
