Not sure what to say?

I have always felt very lucky to enjoy the extraordinary gift of the friendship of the extended Young family all of these years. Dick was such a tender, kind and hardworking man. My favorite memory of this special person will always be the time that that we were standing in his garage, where I had gone to look at his collection of rocks and polishing equipment. As he was explaining to me about his volunteerism at the children's hospital, where he gave away simple jewelry that he fashioned...

We knew Dick through the Clackamette Rock Club. He always had a smile and a chuckle no matter what projects we were doing. Washing rocks was one dirty job, but Dick's sense of humor kept us all going amidst the constant spray of water and mud!

He was kind and concerned and thoughtful in every situation we saw--a gentleman who will be missed by many.

Our hearts go out to you, his family, at this very difficult time. The world is a bit less happy place because Dick is no longer...

Etta--Sorry of the loss of our classmate from the Oregon City Class of 1953. He was a faithful attendee at our yearly picnic. Our thoughts are with you and your family. We will miss him.

Sorry for your loss, I worked with Dick when I started with the city of Portland working the weekend shift in 1979, He was a very hard worker very knowledgeable and a great guy.

Etta, There are no adequate words to express our sorrow at your loss. Dick and Ken shared lives of hard work and took pride in their work. Ken when at NW Natural Gas company had quite a few encounters when he and Dick talked. And remember the party and Dicks gift to Ken was that orange t-shirt. Good memories of a good man. Our prayers are for you and yours.

Whenever I encountered a difficult problem that needed a thorough assessment, Dick was the one who could provide the cleaning or inspection required.
Some of his efforts seemed magical, such as the time he invented a way to have his inspection camera jump out of the main sewer into a side sewer to provide the necessary assessment.

I worked in the sewer maintenance design section of Environmental Services for over 25 years and one of the most unforgettable people I met was Dick Young.
With the tools he had to work with he was able to accomplish repairs and inspections that were magical.
If I had a particularly vexing problem, I called it a "Dick Young" special. I would pose the problem and invariably Dick was there to solve it.
I once had a particularly tough problem with a private sewer that was backing up...
