YOUNG, Richard Harris - Of Flint, age 76, died Saturday, December 16, 2017 at his residence. 


A memorial service will be held 6pm Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, 


Visitation 12pm Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.                         


Richard was born in Minnesota on November 24, 1941, the son of Benjamin and Barbara Young. He married Anna Avanzini in Verona, Italy in 1970. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the American Legion. Richard was a retired sixth grade teacher for the Flint Public Schools and then taught statistics, calculus and algebra at Baker College. After his teaching career, he enjoyed tending to his garden and spending time with his grandsons. 


Surviving are wife and lifelong companion, Anna Young; 


daughter, Francesca (Keith) Lutz; 


son, Christian Young; 


2 grandchildren, Jonah and Micah; 


2 sisters, Karen and Mary Ellen;


 and nieces and nephews. 


He was preceded in death by his sister, Connie.

I’ve only recently been aware of Richard‘s passing ,my feelings are quite sad as we have not spoken in a number of years he was a renter on Robert T Long Way apartments that my wife Joan and I managed and we both had a young child and we both were quite young it was young couples learning about life together I will miss him he was always a friend.

I am so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. We taught together for several years at Williams Elementary. He was a kind and dedicated teacher. He was part of a united staff.
