Campbell ~ Rick Abernathy, 72 of Campbell, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the Campbell Healthcare & Senior Living in Campbell, Missouri.
Rick, son of Oval (Scab) Eugene and Algia Muriel Brown Abernathy, was born on Sunday, December 17, 1950, in Campbell, Missouri.
He was a member of the Campbell General Baptist Church; Firefighter for the City of Campbell for 40+ years; and was a Veteran of the United States Army National Guard.
On October 3, 1970 in Campbell, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Joan Marie Smothers. She preceded him in death on September 30, 2023.
His survivors include two daughters, Amanda Langley and husband, Nathan of Campbell and Sara Moon and husband Jeremy of Campbell; four grandchildren, Jaxson and Madalynn Langley and Briar and Abel Moon all of Campbell; brother, Larry Abernathy and wife Sue of Campbell; sister, Debbie Fieser of Campbell sister-in-law, Ginger Mauldin and husband, David of Jefferson City; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by son, Jeffery Abernathy; sister, Janeen Gibson; brothers-in-law, Donald Smothers and, Tom Fieser; and mother & father-in-law, JW and Glodean Stevens Smothers.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, December 4, 2023 at the General Baptist Church in Campbell, with memorial service beginning at 11 a.m., with Reverend Darren Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery-Landess Addition in Campbell, Missouri.
Landess Funeral Home and Crematory of Campbell are in charge of the arrangements.

Condolences to the Abernathy family on the occasion of Rick's passing. He and Joan were a good resource in keeping up the other members of the CHS graduating class of 1970. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful department through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen
